Im open on which car i have. I just want something with a bit more weight in it and higher up and comfortable for those longer drives.
Im not a massive fan of the juke on looks but its one of those cars i would consider. I was originally looking at the Kia Sportage but i do also like the Suzuki SX4 and Chevrolet Trax.
But when the time comes i will get my dad to take a look at what is available. Its good to see not everyone is against leasing though - which i was kind of expecting.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I don't know why you didn't discuss it with your dad first.0 -
I have always gone for secondhand cars and recently had a bad run of a couple of cars where I was shelling out for repairs.
Last Oct I looked at personal lease and weighed up all the costs.
I went for a brand new Skoda Fabia on lease. It costs me £147 a month and that allows 10k miles per year and road tax (£125 a year) is paid for by the leasing company (Volkswagon Financial Services). I had to put down 3 months rental as a deposit. Its on 3 years lease and straight hand back to the finance company.
I looked at it this way - for £147 a month I have protected myself against any car repair bills/ongoing costs (apart from tyres and having an annual service done).
Because the car is new it comes with a 3 year warranty and 3 year roadside/recovery assistance. If it breaks down then its up to the main dealer to repair and give me a courtesy car. It doesn't need an MOT for 3 years.
Fuel efficiency is great as a brand new car. Plus if I bought on a normal hire purchase I would have to worry about depreciation and having to deal with car sales people trying to undervalue a part ex and still charge full screen price on a new car.0 -
Does car leasing include repairs and maintenance?0

depends on the individual deal - some do, some dont.0

I probably wouldn't have it, but I put MIL on servicing etc. A bit more expensive but she was happier with it.
Leasing can get a rough ride on here and in many cases it is more expensive. In the example of the Skoda above I would be surprised if the lease worked out cheaper than buying but it might just suit.
In OPs examples the only one I see being cheaper is the Chevrolet (I haven't done the sums though). The others sell well enough not to need the hidden discounting that leasing offers the manufacturers.0 -

I have spoken to my dad briefly about it. I just wanted to get a few peoples thoughts.
I dont understand cars and the options at all. Historically i have always been of the opinion if i want something i work for it and buy it.
The fact that nobody is against it or telling me i have done my sums wrong makes me think its actually not a bad idea. So its one of those things that i can now discuss in more depth with him.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Search Lings Cars - and have a look at the model you are interested in to give you an idea of price for lease. Its an whacky website but they are quick and efficient.0

It's one of those things that has it's place.
The right way to look at it is the "deal" and not the car itself.
If you decide you must have a "insert model of car here" then it invariably is more expensive than buying.
If you are prepared to go with what is on a good deal then it can be worthwhile.
A few years ago the Volvo XC90, as an example, was a massive steal on lease (v's buying) but that is no longer the case and many of those types of deal no longer exist.0
