Independent damp surveyors - Surrey

Options
Hi,
We have some fairly obvious evidence of penetrating damp. I have some vague suspicions as to the source but think we really need expert help as its pretty bad. I've read on this forum and elsewhere that the best initial course of action is to get an independent survey done and i found the Independent Damp Surveyors website (1st hit on google, i cant post the link) provides a directory of surveyors. This is a long shot but has anybody here dealt with any of the 3 surveyors listed in Surrey (damp and timber tech ltd, independent specialist surveys, martin ball associates)? Scanning the web for independent reviews hasn't come up with much so far so any recommendation would help.
Thanks

  • Hi, we got a survey from Damp & Timber Tech in 2012. Best £200 we spent. We received a comprehensive report with plain language explanations and practical recommendations. In our case there was very little financial outlay required (£60 on an extractor fan) and a lot of elbow grease on chipping away plaster so he definitely didn't say we had to have a new DPC.

We used Keith from Independent Specialist Surveys in October 2013 as he could come at the earliest opportunity. We paid £190 for a comprehensive report for the whole house and he sent lots of additional information with recommendations about the best products for what we needed and how we might do it cheaply. I didn't meet with him but my husband says he was 'polite, informative and quick' (I don't think he means though that he wasn't thorough just that he got on with it). Hope you get it sorted ok.

That sounds promising. The main thing though is whether his advice has proven effective - has your remedial action worked?

Yes, I would consider it £200 well spent if it hadn't!
