Cannot find server message

Please help before I throw this computer out the window. I have had 2 weeks of interrupted service with Tiscali. I can connect to the internet but after half an hour get the error message "Cannot find server". I appear still to have a connection and the modem seems to be working fine but just can't access any web sites. Then I usually just have to shut down and try again later. I have spoken to the technical help line at Tiscali 3 times. The first time they said it was my firewall (which it wasn't) the second it was a corrupt version of Internet Explorer and they told me to contact my vendor. I did this and he wiped the computer and reinstalled Windows and Internet Explorer again but still the problem keeps occuring. Today Tiscali reckon it may be the lead from the modem to the telephone socket or the socket itself. I am so frustrated with this problem. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

It could be any of several causes, most likely it's the Tiscali service itself. Is your modem connected to the main BT socket, are there ADSL filters on all the phones?
Next time this happens, do the following
START
RUN
CMD
IPCONFIG /ALL >ipconfig1.txt
Then post what you see here (it will be stored on your PC in a file titled ipconfig1.txt)0 -
Thanks for the quick reply. No the computer isn't connected to the main socket as its too far away from the main socket. All the phones in the house have ADSL filters fitted and I've been with Tiscali for 3 years with hardly any problems. They are adamant its a system or socket or cable problem and not theirs. I will let you know what happens. Sometimes the computer freezes as well when I get the error message.

Clearly, the 0.0.0.0 on the last lines of your log is a problem!
Apparently, you have DHCP disabled. You have to enable it by NOT selecting to enter your IP manually in the TCP/IP settings of your network adapter.0 -
The above result shows that you have no internet connection, possibly due to incorrect modem settings or some other bug.
Can you access the modem configurations?
Is the IP address allocated dynamically by Tiscali, same applies to the DNS addresses? - If your IP address is fixed then it should be saved in your modem settings, but in most cases it is allocated by the ISP fo each session.
Have you checked the modem manufacturer's website for any firmware or driver upgrades?
Late Edit:- Also, have you tried the Tiscali Online help ?0
