Diary of a not-so-perfect housewife

A NSD day for the first day of the year is good. Do you have a monthly target of NSDs in mind?

I'm thinking that I'll break myself in gently and aim for 15ish NSD's for January and build up from there. Although there is one floor in my plan..........DH! He's not the best with money, he will often buy lunch when he's working even after I've just filled the cupboards with plenty of things to take. I think this will be an ongoing battle but he seems to be slowly realising that if we want to be out of debt then sacrifices must be made.

I must admit I very rarely make his pack up for him (hence the not-so-perfect housewife!). So, from tomorrow I will try my very best to do the pack ups lol, oh dear now it's in black and white I will have to do it :rotfl:
  • Well another busy day here. Was up half the night with dd so think I did pretty well considering I'm running on empty. The only thing left from today's list was clean bathroom and downstairs toilet - that can go on tomorrow's list.

So, today was not a NSD and I spent more than I wanted to in Aldi (£10.51). It was all essentials for the fridge plus bread which will keep us going until dh's payday on 5th. I also spent £1.27 in home bargains getting 2 birthday cards and some wrapping paper. DS has been invited to twins birthday party on Saturday (only found out yesterday!), I've got a present box which has various randoms that are either bargains I've seen on the off chance or things we have received that will never be used. So I am planning to give one a 3d helicopter jigsaw (it's better than it sounds lol) and the other the dinosaurs love underpants book. Although I'm a bit worried that this is not enough? I never know how much to spend when it comes to kids birthday presents :/

Well I was a good wifey today and made Dh's pack up :) and he is also happy to leave his bank card at home when he doesn't need it so that will stop any temptation for spending.

I've finally found out our total figure of debt, which is as follows:

    Robinson way debt 1 - £2407
    Robinson way debt 2 - £4514
    DFS - £675

    Total - £7596 :(

Both Robinson ways are bad debts that are years old, both in DH name. Dfs is only a recent debt and is all up to date and will be paid off by end of this year.

To through a spanner in the works we also have to save quite a bit of money this year to go to my brother in laws wedding which is in Hong Kong in November. I know most people would be thinking we couldn't possibly go to this when still having debt, but we are very lucky that my brother in law has paid for everybody's flights. So it means we have to find money for hotel and spends. The hotel is going to cost £700 and I think if we have £1300 spending money which is for food, drink etc then that will be plenty. DH and I have still never been on a honeymoon (we married 2 years ago) due to certain events and money so I suppose it would be a kind of honeymoon for us (my mum has said she will look after children when we go). So, that's another £2000 to find, argh I starting to feel stressed now.

Anyway I'm going to update my signature, in the hope I will se debts going down as well as holiday savings going up, wish me luck.

as a sahm too i am looking forwards to our diary, we have about 6/7k on a loan id like to pay off this year so similar goals.

one thing id thought id mention is i give my hubby 'pocket money' each week. he gets £30 every friday to do with as he pleases, he mainly spends it on the lotto (which i don't agree with but i suppose you have to be in it to win it!) and a few beers after football at the weekend. if he wants a takeaway at the weekend and i haven't planned to have one then he pays for this too. maybe this could work for your hubby buying the odd lunch at work? although i have to admit i do make pack ups every night for hubby and ds (i really am a perfect housewife!! lol!!) plus then anything he spends from this i dont have to count as my spends so more nsds for me

    good luck
