Pet Passport Costs

Hope you all had a good christmas, but for me its planning for a holiday thats no1.i live in manchester and wondered if anyone can tell me how much it will cost for a pet passport.i have a few quotes but wondered if anyone could better them.the quotes i had were over £100 mark.

I wouldn't risk taking my pet abroad, just for a holiday. It (dog?) won't travel with you, assuming you are flying, so could be very stressed and there's also the risk of foreign strains of disease ... and rabies which could still be caught even after vaccination.


Wouldn't a nice well researched boarding kennel be better ? Some are lovely and treat guests as their own pets.

I would be interested in this too but not for holidays I hasten to add. I am moving abroad next year and have arranged pet transport overland for my dogs. I am going to get the passports in the new year so interested in any answers on here.

I did ask our local vets but she didn't know, I would have to make an appointment to see the vet to find out, not free of course, £25 for 15 minutes!

Our cats travelled round Europe with us for a while, very happily,(we lived in mainland Europe and our cats were lead trained and outgoing, not nervous house cats!) its not something I'd recommend for most cats, but ours are quite doggy.

If we only had one dog I would absolutely be happy to take it on European holidays with us in just the way as we took the cats, in the car through the tunnel. You are with them at all times, and for dogs used to being with you a lot of the time and travelling in a car its not stressful if all goes well.


There are indeed risks. Just like walking our side we risk them cutting paws, or picking things up from other dogs.


Personally I wouldn't choose to put my animals in boarding kennels if I could avoid it, but I would have a pet sitting service. But then, I have a house ful of pets and not only do I think it would be better for them, I think it would work out less expensive.

The answer used to be it depends. I'm not sure now, but when we had passports for ours the crucial thing was that you had to have the all clear from a rabies (?) test to check that the vac had worked. This took time too, its not the sort of thing you can arrange in a couple of weeks, so plan ahead.

Neither would I , but we don't go away without our dogs. However, my sister's retriever used to go mad when he knew he was going to kennels, as the lady let him sleep in her house and treated him as her own. My son is also using a similar place, recommended and used by his in-laws.


As I mentioned , it is flying with a dog (or cat) that would worry me, as they are separated from you for ages and are transported in a noisy, cold (?) , unfamiliar place; not worth the upset for a couple of weeks.

I wouldn't want my dog flying anywhere because obviously you can't be with them and also not keen on using a ferry as you can only go down to check on them a couple of times.


When I moved to France and then came back a couple of years later I used Eurotunnel as then our dog and cats were in the car with us all the time and the journey is much quicker than a ferry.


Me and OH are thinking of taking the dog we have now on holiday to France or Italy next year

Our dog has a pet passport as we go to france for holidays. It was about £75 for 3 or 5 years , sorry cant remember but you also have to do the rabies vaccine which is the same price. Dont forget that before you come back to the uk, you have to take the animal to the vet up to 4 days before and no less than 24 hours for an worm treatment (even if it has already a treatment for it). Plus you pay extra on the eurotunnel...so not a cheap option but we are happy to have our dog with us! We havent gone on any far away hols though as i wouldnt dream of taking him on a plane...hth
