Replacing flourescent tubes with LEDs?

My kitchen is 12 feet by 12 feet square and at present is lit by a twin 2 foot flourescent light, at least 20 years old, in the middle of the ceiling.
I am going to replace it because either the tubes are getting dimmer with age or my eyesight is.
Also it is behind my wife (me) when doing the dishes at the sink
I am going to replace it with LED spotlight type lights and was wondering if there is a formula or something that would tell me how many spotlights I would need and their spacing?

Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:
