I am an Irish woman that has moved to the UK 6 months ago. I have a bank account and have tried numerous times to apply for credit cards to build up my credit rating. I actually applied for the cards to help improve my credit crating but was refused. Can anyone offer advice on this please? Thanks Fiona.

A mobile phone contract is often easier to obtain and is a good place to start. Also, an overdraft with your current bank may assist. What will your verse be?

Six months isn't long enough to establish a record of any kind.

If you're Irish you can vote in the UK. I formerly worked for O2 - rolling monthly, then 12 month SIM only, then 24 month handset contracts are the easiest to get in that order. You might have the most luck with 3; I've heard of them rejecting perfect scorers and they're budget based.
Look at the MSE website. There is a clearly ranked list of credit cards for bad credit; you are the target market of providers like Vanquis and Aqua.0
