PC memory upgrade

Hello, just wondering if anyone can help. I'd like to have more memory in my pc but have no idea which type, there seems to be so many different types so how do I know which to buy without opening pc to look inside (even if I did that I'd still be confused)? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks for the link, it told me I have DDR PC3200 memory (not really sure what that means), anyway do you think this memory thingy would be suitable?: http://www.dvd.co.uk/Hw/Kingston-ValueRAM-1GB-400MHz/KVR400D2N3K2_1G/product.htm?sr=gsp because it seems quite cheap to me (but what would I know).

You need to know how many memory slots are on your computer's motherboard.
And how many are already being used.
And how many are vacant to fit new memory modules in.
The link that Donnie has posted might help you work it out.

If the system scanner says PC3200 then that memory is suitable. Furthermore it's extremely cheap - the same memory on ebuyer, who are usually the cheapest, is twice the price. Just be aware that it is 2 x 512Mb sticks; nothing wrong with that, but you'll need 2 spare slots on the motherboard or replace existing memory with it.

Thanks for all the advice, it seems I have 4 memory slots and only one is in use with 256mb.

When you get them, take out the 256MB stick out and replace it with the 512MB. Place the other 512MB next to it and then the 256MB in a spare slot.

Just spotted something. The Kingston RAM in the link is DDR2 PC3200, whereas according to the system scanner you have DDR PC3200. The DDR2 memory is therefore not compatible with your system and won't fit anyway. Sorry for misleading you with my previous post.
