Uncapped boiler flue

The above boiler flue is uncapped. Are there any opinions on whether the cap "blew off in the wind", or got broken off before installation?

The boiler is a Bosch installed 6 years ago but the flue is probably older. We recently did a loft conversion which altered the roofline and so the flue had to be moved. The cap was on before they moved it and now it is missing. The plumber is claiming that the cap was there when they rerouted it and that it has since blown off in the wind. We have some evidence to suggest that they installed it with the cap missing but we are not 100% sure. We just want an opinion on the likelihood of a correctly fitted cap "blowing off in the wind".

the flue should be the same age as the boiler you don't fit a new boiler & use the old flue,

the cap is factory fitted it doesn't just sit on top,

how close is that flue to the edge of your velux ? & is that another window above it or the ridge ?

Thanks, from what you are saying it seems clear that the plumber did install it with the cap missing. As for the distance from the velux window - I don't know the exact distances but the plumber routed it to fit in with the regs so that it vents at a certain height above the windows (and we passed the building inspection so I am assuming that it is either OK, or the inspector has major eye-sight problems).

a vertical flue is a set lenght where it comes out the roof it's not adjustable, it should be a min of 600mm away from the edge of your velux & or 2000mm (2m) if it's below a velux, BC have no idea what they are looking at when it comes to flues, either get the installer back to replace the vertical flue or phone Gas Safe & ask for an free inspection & if there are any faults they will make your installer fix them FOC
