            windfalls on the way:
perhaps Carperbagging could be on the way back:idea:
The old saying that one must be in to stand any chance of benefits is still true. The Building Society sector will see more mergers imo but whether there is a payment to members remains to be seen. I am already well placed for any BS merger. The demutualisation of The Sons of Temperance Friendly Society was a really good little earner for me and all other members. I think that some of the smaller FS will merge in the future as the burden and cost of regulation becomes too great. Again I feel I am pretty well placed to benefit with membership spread far and wide. I am certainly not advising that other MSE members do any investment without their own scrutiny of any products available. I am happy with my investments and that is all that needs to be said on that score.0

all fair pp. well done with Sons of Temperance and now with Marine & General. it seems that Friendly Societies are where the potential windfall action is, at the moment. as discussed elsewhere, i am covering 4 of these via TESPs, so a windfall out of that little clutch would be nice:A0

You never know planteria!. Strictly speaking MGM Advantage is an assurance company and not a FS.0

Don't people have incredibly short memories ?
Remember Northern Rock, Bradford and Bingley, Britannia, etc, etc ......
When these mutuals "sold" the benefits of being a plc to their "owners", who become rich from this ?? Only the fat cats in the board rooms, who took their money and ran before the ceiling fell in !
How many of these ex mutuals are still trading under their own name ? Do I hear some one say the Halifax ?? What a wonderful example of why you should NOT de-mutualise.
Still, wave a few hundred quid under the voter's noses and they will fall for it again.......................0

 Not strictly true.
I know quite a few other people did well from them and are not a fat cats on the board either.
The people who didn't were the ones who held single company shares without diversification. I sold out within 12 months or so as holding shares in a single sector/company is not good investing and then invested the money into funds that have done well since.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
