Is a smart tv worth it for me?

  • We have a Samsung PS43D490 which is an HD Ready 3D TV.

The 3D TV has to be more capable of processing the picture and we find it is a better picture than a 2D TV. We got it because it was cheaper than the 2D version at the time, but friends of ours got the 2D version a little later and our picture is better than theirs, we are both on Virgin.

As for a smart TV, most of the stuff we need is on Virgin but if we need anything else we just plug in the laptop.
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare

Now I know that a 3d is supposed to make HD a lot clearer so that's a plus I think seeing as my tv is only HD ready

3D doesn't have an effect on how HD looks.

3D does have a definite detrimental effect on HD TV.

Most TV manufacturers have given up on "active" 3D and are only providing "passive" systems.
Basically, "passive" 3D provides 2 simultaneous pictures which are then separated by the viewer's polarised glasses. This will cause some loss of picture quality caused by the creation of artifacts.
The 3D picture is always less bright than the 2D version, increasing the brilliance will increase the artifacts.

There is a lot of info on the web on this subject - well worth a read if you are thinking of buying a new TV - AND do go to a store where the staff know something about TV - beyond the price and their commission on the sale :D
