For current accounts alone Halifax seems better but because I'm going to open a FD savings account as well @ 6%AER it works out better for me.

I am going to switch to First Direct for a year and then evaluate after that.

I've never tried the app only the regular site. It's functional enough I guess once you get used to it if you don't mind doing everything in a 800*600 pixel rectangle. It's also white on (a lot of) black and feels like how banking was in Ye Olden Days

Barclays is one of the best and the FD one is easily the worst IMHO
