Items left in Hotel room.

Left a Braun shaver at a hotel couple of months back. Rang hotel who confirmed they had it and would send it back to me. Since then they are completely blanking me via phone/email/facebook messages. The item wasn't cheap (around £80). I know its my fault for leaving it behind but wondered if I have any kind of recourse to get it back...

Is it a UK hotel?
If so you may have a claim against them for breach of care. However are you sure they're still trading? Its rather unusual that they admitted they have it and then blanked you.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Yes they are in the UK and still trading - or so it appears from regular facebook updates (it's a pub with rooms attached). The main issue is I can never get them to pick up the phone. I've left numerous answer phone messages.0

Do you have anything in writing from them (email?) to say they have the shaver? I thought your OP said you did but reading it back, it sounds like it was said on the phone. If so.....its going to be he said/she said. Could try sending a letter signed for asking for its return.
Have you offered to pay postage costs? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Once you've tried the usual routes (ie phone, get through to someone senior, motivated and organised enough to respond proactively; writing a recorded delivery letter to the named most senior person there offering return postage costs) and still getting no reply, I think I'd try a message on their Facebok wall, and if no reply, a Tripadvisor review. Sometimes the public forum can get a response when keeping it private hasn't worked. Obviously, it sounds as if you've kept the tone right so far - polite, fair etc, and this is still going to be your best tool - essentially, someone's going to have to go out of their way to get it back to you and by forgetting it, you have caused them an extra job.Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

Failing that-tripadviser review.oops you said that.0

Thanks for the replies folks. I think the letter is a good idea :money:
Nothing in writing confirming they have it. I did naturally offer to pay the postage costs. May even offer to have a courier pick it up in the letter.
Otherwise tripadvisor seems to be the next route but as the stay was so nice bar this issue it would be a shame.0 -
