From the trading standards document above:

A national Trading Standards Institute survey involved feedback from
9,000 randomly selected households. The results showed that nationally,
96% of people simply did not want doorstep cold-callers and nobody
    actually welcomed them.

I switched to British gas, and have twice had letters from them saying 'Our prices are going down' only to read further on that it doesn't however apply to me!

I hate cold callers I make it a policy never to purchase anything from the door.

I can make my own mind up rather than have someone either pressurise me into signing there and then or to make an informed choice, price is always a factor for me.

I also heard so many stories of salesman either pushing to hard for a sale or actually signing up people without there consent although I am sure there are better safeguards now than in previous years.

The comparison sites are great but one does wonder if they are entirely impartial

A couple of years ago my Dad whos was in his 80s was with Staywarm and was very pleased with the deal.
Someone from another energy company called and when he said he was with Staywarm they said that they were from Staywarm and he just had to sign something so being a little confused he signed.
After the salesman left my Dad panicked and luckily went next door to get his neighbour to check what he had signed(Dad is partially sighted).
It turned out he had signed to change companies:mad:
His neighbour phoned up on his behalf and got the contract cancelled.
We complained to the company and to OFGEN.

I have also had someone at my door saying "you are on the wrong tarrif can I see your bill...........errr no!.Obviously they wanted my account details to transfer my supply!

    I hate coldcallers!
Some are so underhand,I trust none of them!

I wouldn't recommend call callers to ring my bell!LOL!:rotfl: :rotfl:
    :j I love bargains:j
    I love MSE
  • After reading in this forum that Stay-warm took into consideration things like attendance allowance and pension credit, I phoned them on their free phone number. I came off the phone ten minutes later after being told that I would be paying over twenty pounds per month less from now on.
    All praise to Martins efforts.
