Okay, I am a recruitment agency manager, I admit it.

It is essentially, as I am sure you know, a sales job. I am targeted on revenue figures on both permanent and temporary sales.

Its a two way street, I can gain all the client business in creation, but if I don't have applicants it counts for nothing. In terms of my ability to do my job, I need strength in both areas.

I am old school, in as much as I joined the industry in the 1990's, the entire market has changed since then.

One thing I am acutely aware of, is that today's candidate could be tomorrow's recruiter, I am also appalled at the responses some friends have received when applying for jobs online, emails along the lines of "we are experiencing high volumes of applicants, if you don't hear from us within....." This is basic bad manners, I have some 200 temps working at any one time, coupled with a large number of perm and contract roles, it doesn't take long to quickly email people to let them know where they stand! It is down to basic laziness and complacency.

So in summary, yes I sell, yes I have targets, that is my job, but as I mentioned, I can't do that job if I don't have a vacancy/candidate balance!

Precisely. I am a senior manager and grown-up enough to take a bit of constructive criticism without resorting to threats of litigation if I don't like the answer. Good manners can go a long way with me and most other people I know who have more than two brain cells to rub together.
