Unfortunately true. The last company I workef for did used to give feedback, but ended up with so many people arguing with them and yelling about discrimination they gave up in the end. If the reason someone did not get the job is something simple and practical it's fine, but often it's more complicated than that.

Unless the reasons given actually were discrimination. If they're trying to avoid giving feedback to facilitate hidden discrimination, then it's only right for people to be furious.

I don't think you understand a recruiters job. It's to make money.
They get paid by the client - as a candidate you don't pay them anything, it's a free service.

I don't see that as an excuse to treat candidates like s***. After all, today's candidate may be tomorrow's recruiter. What goes around comes around.

  • Interviewers are wise not to give feedback incase anything they say is misconstrued as discrimination.

    The less said the better.

Unless they promised to give you feedback whatever the outcome. Any recruiter worth their salt knows how to give constructive feedback. Anything else is just cowardice.

Also Myself I am now in Full Time work with no help from agencies. Applied to the company direct. Most of The agencies in my area treated me like c**p & I believe some of the recruitment agents would have murdered their own grandmothers to make a sale. Now with my input in my full time job, I make it clear to HR who the bad agencies in my area are to never use if they need to.
  • Dear Recruitment Agency...

Please don't take 50% of my earnings for the entire time I'm working for 'you' rendering it impossible for me to even live an average lifestyle.

    Thanks and Happy New Year.

Disagree, its not cowardice, its being prudent.

If they promise it at the outset then yes they probably should provide it but then more fool them for offering it.

My son was with an agency in Manchester who were excellent, ringing him every few days and always giving him feedback.
They had him in to do a mock interview as well before his last one which resulted in him getting the job and have rung several times since he started so see how he's getting on.
Can I be really nosy and ask which agency this is? I'm looking for work at the moment and am about to flame the agency that I'm dealing with! I've called them countless times, but nobody's available to take my call or call me back!

Can I suggest you look back at my earlier post. State that you are calling from a leading bluechip employer and need 6 vacancies filling immediately. I bet they will return your call within 5 minutes

On a similar topic, I'm amazed at the number of companies who don't see (senior) candidates as both an applicant and as a customer. Instead they are just treated as disposable fodder.

I'm quite happy to accept that I may not be the right person for your job, but if I have to choose between getting my supplies from a company who treated me as a human, and one which treated me like dirt, I'll probably have a preference!

Rubbish, its very wise not to give any feedback.

I once gave a candidate honest feedback and thanks to working in the public sector that resulted in a massive shi*storm and investigation, where I was accused of racism which was a total crock as the successful candidate was Asian.

Now I refuse to give any feedback and let HR use one of their standard feedback letters.
