Not exchanged contracts completion 20th

I last spoke to our solicitor on the 23rd dec at which point they advised our purchasers had not yet got a mortgage, at least they were not aware of it yet. Our purchasers were pushing for the 20th jan! not contracts have been signed etc. Our solicitor returns 6th jan. Is it possible to have everything done in time for 20th? We aren't pushing for 20th, our buyers are, so can wait. We have put an offer in for a house for entry date of 20th, and our purchase is going okay so far. Could really all fall through at this stage. Worrying time when everyone is closed over Christmas, we'll except our mortgage company

You probably need to check where your purchasers are up to with the mortgage process
-Have they formally applied?
-Have they had a survey?
-Have they had the survey results?
-Have they had a formal mortgage offer?
The solicitor will say they haven't got a mortgage unless a formal mortgage offer has been issued.
Do you know where you are up to with everything else? Have all enquiries been answered and do you know if the search results are back? It probably is still just about do-able for 20th January but it really depends on where everything else is up to! If you're not that bothered about dates I would probably just leave it up to your purchasers to chase up and set dates and be as accommodating as possible.0 -
We are in Scotland, so their mortgage company has been in touch and home report was refreshed on the 16th December. Searches are underway both sides, had to reply to their solicitor re possible bankrupt person in my name, seems ludicrous as dob totally different.
Do you think they would start searches without their client having a mortgage in place.
It could be that our solicitor doesn't know if they have their formal mortgage offer yet? I am not sure if there is a need to let ours know? Would it not be a case of them signing the contract on our property next. They are renters so no chain and I know they did own a property then sold it and moved into rental accommodation.0 -
Ah I'm sorry I was going off England/Wales process! I think their solicitor does need to confirm the mortgage offer with your solicitor otherwise it wouldn't be possible to exchange contracts.0
