I am with Scottish Power and fixed until Sept 14. When should I be looking at switching tariffs? Thanks :D

You can have a look at what tariffs there are anytime you like. Whether you will save any money is a different matter, especially if you have a leaving penalty.
I have a look every couple of months to see what's about but I've always been on the cheapest tariff that's been available as most of them have increased since my last swap (sometimes by quite a lot).

It usually takes about 4-6 weeks to effect a changeover so sometime in August might be appropriate if you can't find a cheaper fix that you can move to in the meantime.

  • I am with SP and my fixed tariff is up in january. i phoned them at the end of november to see what other tariffs were available. They tried to get me to sign up for another year to the one I was on at £153 a month with FREE boiler cover so i aske them if this was the lowest price and got told no, i have signed up for 1 year fixed when my current deal ends at £116 a month. I said so the FREE boiler cover is not actually free is it I am paying for it, no response lol. Always ask what is the lowest tariff you can offer me :D

The Scottish Power March 2015 fix was fully subscribed in two weeks, so check every week?

I find the good deals usually appear around August to October.
