Moving dedicated fridge plug socket? (Fridge pretruding)

Hello,
I have recently purchased a brand new build property, in my kitchen there is space for a fridge freezer which arrived today. The fridge fits perfectly however due to the skirting board and where the plug has been placed (1/4 up the wall) it is causing the fridge to sit approximately 4cm away from the wall when the fridge is plugged in, causing the fridge to slightly protrude over my kitchen cabinets.

I am writing to see if it would be an easy job for an electrician to move the dedicated fridge plug socket lower, as there is space at the bottom of the back of the fridge which would mean the plug would not cause the fridge to protrude out, I was also considering slightly sanding down the skirting board at the rear.

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Antony

Simple, but possibly time consuming depending on how the initial cabling has been done

What height is the socket above the floor at the moment? Being a new build, there is a minimum socket height of 450mm above the floor.

We had this issue once where the 13A plug hit the back of the fridge.
I replaced the socket with a switched spur outlet with fuse and cable out and hard wired the fridge in to that. Without the plug in the way the fridge sat flush, the cable was long enough to pull the fridge out to turn it off if necessary.

  • Easily done but I don't see what sanding the skirting board will achieve.

Just be careful if you are moving a fridge back that it is not tight against the wall. It needs room for air to circulate around the cooling pipes or it won't work efficiently.
