That's excellent - your planning on being MF by the end of the year. Well done. It would be a brilliant position to be in - mortgage clear and some savings. We can spur each other on !

Hello!! Another impatient, ambitious MFW!! Welcome! You are just like me - many said I couldn't do it but I'm nearly there now!!
Echo what others have said - get a lodger. You can earn nearly £5k per year tax free and overpay the lot. The way to get your head round that is to say for every x number of months I have a lodger, it takes a month off the target end date - really helps focus the mind!! Also, as with a couple of others on here, I now love having a lodger and the last 2 have now become good friends.
The Tilly tip of meal planning really worked for me, reduced waste and saved me a fortune.
Any payrise you get between now and your target date, overpay.
Finally, know how much it will cost to take a month off your end date. If it was say, £2000, you will try and find a way to make £2000 in a year or 2.
    Post regularly, it helps!
    Good luck
    Mortgage starting balance 2011 ... £170k today £1.5k

    Hi LauraJo

What you have said has really hit home for me. I've just done the sums and i can be where I need to be in 2 years time rather than 2.5/3 years with the help of having a lodger for 12 months.

Also what you have said about people thinking that its not possible to be MF, your right. Looks like we get the last laugh :rotfl:

Going to look into renting a room this weekend. Will update any progress. Thanks.

    No probs :)
I just advertised online and got a few weirdo's and a few nice people turn up! You can always say no to people if you don't want to live with them.
    Good luck, keep us posted...

  • What a day - so I had an idea to make some extra cash and de clutter my home also ! Decided to rummage through my home to see what I have that can go towards a car boot :

    -50 music CDs
    -2 DVD players
    -iphone 2g
    -Playstaion 2 with 20 games
    -freeview box
    -old laptop with bag!
    -old digital camera

I did not realise I had these lying around. I'll let you know how much I make in a few months. Won't be much - but it'll help. Going to see if my parents house has anything too!

On the lodger side of things. It just so happens that my friend is looking for a spare room! Nt sure how long for as we're going to meet up on the weekend. It might not be the best of ideas renting to a friend ? But sometimes it better the devil you know ( or so I've heard !)

Also on a quest to use up what I have in my house instead of buying it. I pulled out two gift sets from my wardrobe that I got from last Christmas with moisturises in that I needed ! The small things hey!

  • Joined a market research group today. My friend got my onto it. Got my first session next week. It's £80 for two hours work. Not bad hey !

That £80 will go straight to my offset savings account.

Also I've heard that eBay sometimes do free listings. So I might wait for another one of those so I can try and flog my stuff ( rather than doing a car boot!)
