How do you decide or rather what is the criteria you look for when considering buying homeplug adapters ?

In theory, the 'original' 85mbps standard should work ok but mine are 200mbps and do the job fine. I got these http://www.ebuyer.com/263575-tp-link-200mbps-powerline-adapter-twin-pack-tl-pa211kit
If you want to future proof then I understand 500mbps is the latest standard, but more expensive.0 -
My daughter (family) have just bought a Humax Freesat+ with Free Time HD Digital TV Recorder. (from argos ) and would like to use the iplayer/itv player etc facility. This means they need to connect an ethernet cable from the receiver to their router for the broadband connection required, this they new and accept.
In the set-up guide, they make allowances for those who do not have their router close/behind the tv, by suggesting Homeplug Adapters. A quick google shows these things are available at varying prices/makes. If you have one such recorder and have selected a Homeplug, maybe you'd tell me if it is idea and the cost etc. Like most people, they would like to keep the cost down, so any info would be appreciated. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I have found Homeplugs to be very successful in achieving what you want.
There are quite a few offers on them at present and as long as you get one that runs at 200Mbps or higher you won't have any problems. In terms of practicality some of them come with a pass through plug facility which means that you don't lose the use of a socket when it is plugged in. They say that you should plug them directly into a wall socket for best performance however I have used them plugged into extension leads without a problem.
At present, PC World have some in their sale which look quite good.

Currys have the same product at the same price.
Many similar products are also available on Amazon but you would have to wait for delivery with those.
Hope this helps.0 -
Any 500Mbps pair of Homeplugs will do the job. The TP ones mentioned above are also £24.99 on Amazon. No free lunch, and no free laptop
