Barclaycard acceptance, yay or nay?

Having already have a barclaycard, which i keep in good order and have just applied for their longest 0% offer on purchases and balance transfers credit card.

I just applied online and it made me create a new login and sign a doc online by ticking it.

It then came back with the following message:

Thank you, we have received your application.

There are just a few more things we need to check before we can give you a decision. We’ll be in touch within the next 5 working days if we need any further information from you.

Some of the reasons why your decision may have been delayed
We may need to validate some of the information you entered in the application form

We may have been experiencing some technical difficulties and therefore could not provide a decision at this point
We may require some additional information to support your application

Alternatively, if you have any other queries about your application please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 0844 811 9151 (call charges apply).

Chances of being accepted? :(

  • I applied for the same card with the 29 month on Balance transfers just over a week ago (19th December).

I received a similar message except mine just stated that the application will be processed within 5 days. It then sent me on the next page to fill out the online account details to see the credit limit that had been given. I was not given a customer id at that point so I could not login to my account at that stage.

I received an email on a couple of days later saying "welcome to Barclaycard, you will receive your card within the next 5 day. The email also contained the customer id I needed to login.
My credit limit was also included in the email which was pretty hefty. I am not sure if a human\underwriter had a look at the application in those couple of days and have decided on my limit based on my balance transfer request of £2500.

I expect my card to show up tomorrow.

For me, it was a good sign but it all depends on if there are any anomalies on your credit files. My message after I submitted the application did not mention any further checks only that it will take 5 days to process the applications.

There have been posts on this forum before with people who have got the card only to have it revoked. Hope I'm not one of them.
  • OP, I'm in your situation (although went for the 28 month BT rather than 29, lower handling fee), and got exactly the message you saw. Got accepted a couple of days later, card's in the post. They'd linked my accounts for me already as well.

I swapped my Barclaycard for a freedom rewards Barclaycard. It went through fine. They said as I was an existing customer it meant the credit checks aren't as stringent.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
