Home insurance is unlikely to pay for plumbers or anyone else to come out to resolve the issue - they should be made aware as soon as possible if you intend making a claim with them but I would imagine in most cases they will ask you to get the cause fixed yourself.

Last night when the insurer couldn't locate a plumber to have a look, they would *give me permission* to arrange my own plumber for up to £100 call out charge. I didn't go with it in the end, because of the paperwork involved, price is too low for anyone to come out in my area at that time in the week, and I could wait until the morning if needs be.

Seems the UK can't train enough plumbers! What a joke.

  • Lets think about this one shall we - Emergency cover very cheap a few quid a month if that - weather in last few days ?? Too many claims not enough staff??

That doesn't matter, I live in a place where there are no floods. They should be prepared - Dial Direct only has one person manning the home emergency line at night, he was actually doing his best to help out. It seems the people in the day, are the most unhelpful.

  • Anyone curious to know, I've finally, after to and fro dealing with insurance, underwriters, etc. I've had the builders come in and fix up the mess the leak caused, along with the mess the plumber created. It was a long wait, but building insurance pays! Excess was £100, for a ~£800 job.

I got some apology letters from the Contents Insurance and Home Emergency organisations, I'll reply back and see if I can arrange a nudge a discounted premium :-)
