ideas for family meal New year's Day?

I'm doing a family New Year's Day meal and usually make it similar to Christmas Dinner.
Bit turkeyed off at the moment and couldn't face any more - or another roast dinner with any meat.
There will be 8 adults and 3 permanently ravenous boys, with the only stipulation being that it's not fish.
I just can't think of anything suitably festive...suggestions appreciated!:)

Lentil shepherd's pie with goats cheese mash. Mmmmmmmm. ( and no, I'm not a vege!)
Or cook a couple of currys?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Meat and lots of it, if you can I would have a BBQ0

Why not make the traditional new years day meal?
So; steak pie, roast tatties and piles of veg :j0 -
Was going to suggest steak pie too as a traditional NY day meal!0

traditional up here in glasgow, steak pie and potatoes etc, always goes down well
cut the pastry off the top first, cook the pie and then add the pastry again towards the end otherwise you end up with a burnt top and everything else is cold, excellent tip someone told me a couple of years ago0 -
If your nerve & oven fail, platters of sandwiches.
As in more than is reasonable, but with the full sweep of fillings (excluding turkey!) alongside the Walkers product range, a bowl of fruit & several slabs of beers etc.
Have a monster picnic, & what you don't eat at the party will see packed lunches sorted for Some Time...
(Sorry, the teens will stay up til there are just crumbs & the adults may stay up til all the tins are emptied...)0 -
its steak and chips at chez Meritaten's. no-one ever wanted yet another roast dinner so its been a tradition we invented for ourselves 30 odd years ago.
with that many people though - how about a BBQ? or Curry?0 -
How about a buffet of one particular type of cuisine; Mexican or Indian?
Last year I did a mexican one with a huge pan of chilli and the stuff to assemble fajitas and nachos and people just had what they wanted.0 -
Sometimes people choose golden lentils, because they symbolise coins, and prosperity in the new year, and something sweet for a sweet year ahead .....something to think about In your choice?0
