I've got vista with the 'windows advanced firewall'. I also have a netgear dg834g v3 router with supposedly a built in firewall.
I've enabled port 50400 for use with Azureus (which is not running now) and now that I've just found ZoneAlarm released a vista compatible firewall, I installed it. In the time it's taken me to type out this message, it says:
"The firewall has blocked internet access to your computer (UDP Port 50400) from 193.2.102.254 (UDP port 36913). THis message also pops up with different IP addresses and also has used the TCP port 50400 with a different TCP Port number reported.
After doing a preview on this thread and correcting a spelling mistake, the alerts have continued to climb and now at 421
What's going on? How can I allow Azureus to get through port 50400 without getting hundreds of access attempts by so many different IP addresses?  And what's happened before I installed Zonealarm when these were not being blocked?!!
EDIT - now Azureus upon startup makes Zonealarm say Azureus is trying to act as a server, source I.P. 0.0.0.0:Port 50400 - that means free access through port 50400 right?

Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.
Baldrick: Is it as cunning as a fox what used to be Professor of Cunning at Oxford University but has moved on and is now working for the U.N. at the High Commission of International Cunning Planning?
Blackadder: Yes it is.
Baldrick: Hmm... that's cunning.

Every user can choose which port they use. Thus, for each new port used by some user, you'll get that.
I desactivated alerts myself, and you also need to make Azureus green on both in/out traffic, on all ports. You might even need to allow it to send email message if someone used the port 25.0 -
Zonealarm has issues with Azureus. When I used Azureus I changed to Kerio Personal firewall.Happy chappy0

What do you think of Vista? my daughter loves it (she uses it at work) & wants me to install it.0

Untick portforwarding when you aren't using it, or don't run Azureus at bootup and/or reconnect your router to get another ip address to stop the tracker pointing to your IP
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Bit off topic, especially considering all the vista versus xp threads already."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

albertross - untick port forwarding, where do I do this? Azureus doesn't run at bootup if that matters.Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.

Unfortunately kerio doesn't want to install on a vista systemBlackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.

When you say " I've enabled port 50400 for use with Azureus", did you do that on the router, or in ZA/windows firewall?

firewall rules?
if you haven't enabled port forwarding or upnp on the router, then the router should block random attempts at connecting to this port, provided that azureus isn't running.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
OK, this is what's set up, do I leave these as they are and just allow Azureus full access through the ZoneAlarm firewall then? Outbound Azur1 and Azur2 are UDP and TCP.
I'd much prefer closing port 50400 because of all the access attempts but that I presume would then stop Azureus performing adequately. Sorry for not being very on-the-ball, I hardly ever tinker with these settingsBlackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.

The easy way of making it secure is to remove those ticks and click apply, when you aren't torrenting, and put them back in and click apply when you are.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
