Morning All

Thanks for all the help last night. Just to let you know that it started 1st time again this morning. It is 'juddering' a lot though..is this to be expected with the battery problem?
I am going to get some petrol and then drive the short journey to work. When i leave work i am going to the garage to get a new battery.0 -
No, not normally associated with a battery problem. Hopefully it will clear itself.WantToBeSE wrote: »Morning All

If the battery was run low,the ECU could have reset. So the ECU will be running on default perameters and will need time to relearn.
Nothing to worry about
Is the battery light going fully out once it starts? Have a good look as its often a very faint light while running if there is a partial charging issue0 -
Thanks guys. Yes the battery light is going out when i start the engine, although i will continue to keep an eye on it.0

When you say juddering a lot do you mean it's losing power for a split second then picking up again? Sounds to me like you have loose terminals I'd be tempted to tighten them.
What could be happening is when the car sits still there isn't as much vibration/movement and everything is fine but when you're going there could be just enough movement on the battery terminals to cause a break in the connection just for a split second and this is where your loss of power comes from.0 -
People should always carry a set of jump leads in their car! At least then if your car doesn't start your colleagues at work or someone can help jump start you car easily with their car!!0

Or, equally or perhaps more likely if its being run as low on fuel as the OP suggests, it's suffering from low fuel pressure.
It doesn't sound as though the car's exactly 'loved' from what's been said, so could be a filthy fuel filter contributing to the issue as well (and could also be contributing to continued starting difficulties irrespective of the state of the battery).
Advice for OP - keep the fuel tank over 1/4 full. Not for any 'crap in the tank' reasons you'll normally see mentioned, but just to ensure situations like this don't occur too often. As a general rule, I like to make sure I have sufficient fuel in the car to make a return trip to the nearest major town or city from wherever I am.0 -
Hi all.
I made it to work and back fine this morning. The juddering disappeared within 5 mins of me driving it.
The fuel gague isn't on the red or anything, just that it's a bit of a drive to the nearest petrol station. I don't normally allow it to go this low, but was waiting to fill up as i have a voucher for 5p off per litre.
I don't have to go into work until Thirsday now, so am thinking that i will just give the battery a good charge (as suggested) instead of replacing straight away?
Any idea where i can get a charger and how much it'll cost? The battery is £52 (with 3 year guarantee) at my local garage, and £20 to install.0 -

Fit it yourself £20 for two nuts, three if it's bolted down is outrageous.0 -
