  • I have a diary and write everything in it and check it before I go to bed at night for the following day.

I try to check out the bargains at the supermarkets and bulk buy things like this week it was beans at L!dl so I tanked up with 30 packs which will last us for ages. Just think ahead as to what you need long term as well as short term, I just bought 2 Pandora charms in the sale for next xmas which I will put away for the kids.

    I am looking for advice!

I was wondering how other people organise themselves/their homes/their families.

I have bought 2 diaries and a notebook in an attempt to be more organised in the new year but I don't really know where to start.

    Any advice welcome!

    Please explain 'organised'? ;)

Fortunately I'm retired so my now adult family has their own organising to do, no OH on the scene so I only have myself to look after. I do what I want as I feel like it, shopping, housework etc., keeping everything under control by pottering, but could live by the saying 'my house gets cleaner in the 10 minutes before visitors arrive than it does the rest of the year' ;)

Re diaries, I'd use one to write birthdays, anniversaries and so forth in a week before the actual event to give you time to buy/send a
card. Use the same one to list what you have to do that week, appointments in red, again a week in advance and on the day. The other I'd write in a week-by-week must-do for the house and garden. (Personally I spend more time on the garden in Summer and on the house in Winter).

Lots of suggestions on here for the notebook, I have one for the house, room/window sizes, tradesmens phone numbers, insurance numbers for buildings/contents, car, passport, any other important docs so you have a copy if the original should get mislaid.

If you have a family you need rope them in to do their share. I never went into my childrens bedrooms once they'd been taught how to use the vacuum cleaner, polish, wipes and so on. If they wanted to live in a pit that was their choice, and only one of the three did.

Just don't try to do it all yourself, if there's more that one in the household chores should be shared equally to each member's ability. And don't beat yourself up if things don't get done, one day you'll be retired and sitting in a clean and tidy house, the freezer full of home cooked meals, and enjoying the freedom to do what you like :)
  • Ha - you see I am sooo organised I posted to the wrong thread! :rotfl:
