Help with car decision
Hi,
My car is due for a MOT in the last week of January, but I'm in a dilemma as to whether or not to send it for MOT as this will cost me few hundreds.
I'm planning to get a new car soon however this will not happen until February but I'm prepared to be without car for few weeks.
My current car has had a hit in the rear and the repair would cost ~£600 to fix the body and bumper this but I felt it is not worth. So, can I send my car for spares, is it easy to do this, the car is a 2001 model but has a full service history and has run 65000m. The car in itself is in good condition, would it be necessary to have the MOT done to sell a car for scrap? It has insurance and tax.
Thanks
P

Put it on the bay or gumtree, see if anyone is interested, or have a look to see if your model type is selling.0

It wont cost hundreds to send it for an MOT. It will cost about £30.
Worth sending it in early Jan to see what needs doing to get it to pass its test. Then you can decide0 -
Thanks for the replies, I guess it is not a bad idea to just send it through the MOT to see if it passes but my only concern was the rear hit which has left the driver side back bumper crushed.
Should the MOT pass require a costly bill, can I just not do it and try to sell it for spares or should I look for buyers who would be willing to spend money on it to drive? confused, I will first as suggested put it on ebay or gumtree and see the response first..0 -
What car are we talking about?0

You don't need an MoT or tax to sell a car. Just be absolutely clear in the advert that the car has some damage and that you are selling it for 'spares or repair' with a month's MoT. If you sell it after 31 January, the car is no longer legal to drive (unless to a pre-booked MoT test), so you would need to add that the buyer will need to make appropriate arrangements to remove the car. That would cover all your responsibilities as a seller.
Lots of cars on eBay as 'spares or repair'. Take lots of photos of the bad bits and be totally honest about condition. That way there is no comeback on you as a seller. Someone will want it.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
as long as there no sharp edges protruding and no lamps smashed lights for the number plate work, and the bumper not hanging dangerously off I cant see why it would be an issue.0

The car is a Peugeot 306 2001 model. No, the damage is not dangerous and is absolutely safe to drive as I have been using the car for the past few weeks.
I think it would be best to be totally honest about the condition of the car as Richard suggested and leave it off for the market to decide about what they want to do with the car.
I'm going to prepare some photos and post it on the website ASAP and then will update here about my progress.
Thanks once gain guys..

All the unknowns are not helping you make a decision.
You don't need to wait until the end of January to have an MOT test.
Get it tested asap and if it passes the new date will be the end of January 2015 - 12 months from the date of expiry of the current one - NOT 12 months from the date of testing.
If it fails you can still keep running it until the present MOT expires.
And during that time get estimates of the cost of the work necessary to pass.
You can then make an informed decision.0 -
As DUTR says.
Easily sell a little 306 on eBay or Gumtree
A very common purchase is bangernomics situations as they are pretty dependable.
Especially with the XUD lump in them
One of the last of the old school Pugs.0 -
You don't need to have MOT, tax or insurance to sell a car. Find a price from one of those comparison sites like scrap car comparison to see if it's worth fixing or not first... it all depends on how bad the damage is, like someone else said if there's no sharp edges and everything works it will be roadworthy with a cracked bumper!0
