Cruel charges by Santander
Trouble_double
I moved home a few years ago and forgot to change the address on my previous bank account. I didn't realise a £5 PCM insurance policy was still trickling money out.
Santander slapped on £500 worth of charges before closing the account, despite not being able to contact me for six months, it seems to me they did this knowing they would sell the debt to a debt collection company and cashed in.
Why did they not shut the account sooner? Have I case against them do you think?
I realise I was at fault for failing to inform them of my change of address but they had my current phone number and email address yet still failed to contact me!

Not being able to contact you is not their fault. Why did they not shut the account sooner? Have I case against them do you think?
They cant shut an account with a balance. They also didnt know what your intentions were.
banks dont use email for personal communications. You had their telephone number. Why didnt you contact them?I realise I was at fault for failing to inform them of my change of address but they had my current phone number and email address yet still failed to contact me!
Indeed, that is what you should do now.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
How would they know they were unable to contact you? You didn't change your address. They would have written to you to advise you were being charged. Did you use the RM forwarding service?
However, as above, give them a call and see what they say. They may be helpful.0
