Electric meter

Options
I moved into a new property 2 months now,I noticed the prepayment meter was in credit, I registered to supplier as new tennant and just mentioned the meter was in credit and they said nothing. Christmas Eve I had a phone call from supplier asking why I had not purchase any credit for meter and I told them there was credit left on it,now the say I have to pay it back is this true

One would have thought that the existing credit either belonged to the supplier or the previous customer as it had been paid for by them - it wasn't really a freebie for you.
Potentially it was also paying off some arrears so the electricity that you've used wasn't free - you will have to pay for what you've used since you moved it

they phoned you to ask why had you not put credit on the meter  why would they do that if it already had credit on it, for that matter why would they do it even if it were empty, sound strange to me.

But to answer your question, just because the person you told and the credit was daft, doesn't mean you get to keep someone elses credit, so yes it's their mistake but you still have to pay for the fuel you use, as the credit will be refunded back to the last bill payer, do you really want them coming around asking why their refund was £50 short and having to tell them because you feel you shouldn't have repay them for the fuel you used.

    What bill?

A pre pay meter credit is not portable or transferrable. Think of it as a parking meter with credit - the original customer paid and moved on. You don't have to until the power goes off and you start paying
  • Is this the same meter you asked about in this thread?
Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??
