I have attended three regular running groups. Had problems with being left behind with two o them; so had to leave.

Both groups were aware of the difficulties I have.

    http://www.sportability.org.uk/

Sportability, a registered charity, provides sport and challenging pursuits for people with paralysis around the UK. People with conditions such as spinal cord injury, stroke, MS and others, are able to participate in a whole range of sports - scuba diving, sailing, archery, angling, abseiling, quad-biking, gliding, canoeing, clay pigeon shooting, go-karting, land-yachting, wheelchair tennis and many more.
It is not about creating elite sportsmen and women. It is about trying something new and different. It is about the adrenaline rush, putting the buzz back into a life corralled by the wheelchair, taking the 'dis' out of disability and focusing on ability. To inspire the thought, "If I can do this, what else can I achieve?"
  • Hi is this for yourself? I havent read the entire thread sorry as attention is poor today but it might help to know what kind of diability you talk about so we can have a better idea of what sort of sport and activities could be suitable and which you may enjoy better or for longer or shorter or team or individuals participation. Great question though made me think! :)
Failure is only someone elses judgement.
Without change there would be no butterflies.
If its important to you, you'll find a way - if not, you'll find an excuse ! ~ Easy to say when you take money out of the equation!
  • Hi, it's for me ... but also for other people as my GP wants to know how much I can find out as he's got other patients wanting to try different activities, so he's tasked me with info gathering! :)

I have mild ASD and a heart condition which gives me chronic pain and fatigue and weakness.
  • Ok nice to see your doing the job of your GP lol.

By your name your in Yorkshire or are you living elsewhere now?

I have AS (a kind of arthritis of the spine and other main joints)and other things so its made me inquisitive as to what sport or activities I may be able to get into although impact ones may not be so helpful. I used to be rather sporty when I was younger so its something I cna only think back about and wish I was still that way now.

Good luck and I hope you find a new interesting hobby soon :)

Ahh, I don't mind cos he's the best GP I've ever had! :D

    I'm in Yorkshire, yes.

    Ankylosing spondylitis? Sounds very painful.
Swimming would probably be good for you though, light aqua-aerobics also. Yoga and tai chi seem popular as they're not particularly 'high energy' activities.
