moving to new area when to look at rentals?

So in the coming year we are moving to our desired area (if all goes well), when in the job search/recruitment process do you look at rental properties?

How much money do you think is needed to move 60 ish miles away - months rent, deposit, movers, other things?

When you know a date for moving to the area. By all means, though, get a good idea for the area and for prices first.

It's only 60 miles! Not the far end of the country... Movers are going to be the only cost that'll be different to just a local move, but they'll depend on how much stuff you're moving - you could easily DIY a couple of round trips per day in a rental van.

we aren't planning on taking much at all, getting most things down there. we are thinking of just hiring a van.

Start looking now,

look at what rents(and what hangs about) areas, transport, social, even think about the odd weekend/overnight to check out specific areas and any cheap B&B/hotels if needed for the move.

Cost depends on timing and if you are in rented/owned and how long you plan to take to do it
