Car Insurance
My car insurance is due at the end of January. I went on Compare the Market and my lowest was £192 from Zurich, good price but I wouldn't mind if it was cheaper still. Which companies should I try independently that don't appear on the price comparison sites?
Thanks,
Ed

Any of the ones listed that weren't on the comparison site is the obvious answer.
Do you honestly think you'll get it much cheaper?0 -
ALL of them. If you dont try every single company out there then you wont know if your getting a good price.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Try a couple of price comparison sites,
Confused
Compare the Market
Etc.
Then try a few of the "direct only" ones, Direct Line etc.
Make sure you have declared all claims/convictions whether at fault or not and whether you actually claimed or not to avoid getting stung after inception. You can always call the company with the best price and try and haggle a bit? If not, ask them if they will give you some free add-ons such as legal cover etc.0 -
Personally i'd just take them up on the offer rather than spending so much more time trying to save a tenner or so. It's a real ball ache sometimes getting car insurance quotes.0

I'd agree, a decent Insurer, certainly one of the companies I would definately choose.
Make sure you don't have the economy policy.
If you're looking for further quotes and especially if you're using comparison sites, it would be sensible to give a ficticious telephone number eg 01234 567890 or be prepared to be bombarded with calls and again this time next year0 -
Remember not all insurance companies are the same, few of them seem to have any trouble taking your money, its how they behave if you need to claim that you find out.
Only ever heard good things about Zurich.0 -

Maybe for motoring but weren't they Allied Dunbar at one point?0 -
Do you drive something that may have a specific car insurer interested? Eg modded or classic or a unique marque?0

I was quite pleased when Zurich came up cheapest, I'll probably give them a ring and negotiate the legal cover. They're after another 30odd quid for that. It's just a 1.2 corsa and I live in quite a rural area so it was never going to be too expensive. I didn't think of the phone number bit but as I live somewhere there is no mobile phone signal they won't get through to me most of the time.

Best to research the potential insurance co too if you haven't heard of them. My current car insurance company, that was cheapest on one of the major comparison sites, is asking me to send proof of no claims and proof of photocard and counterpart driving licence. They want me to take photos and email them. Some just haven't entered the 21st century yet. So it seems.0
