Lack of support from social services - what now?

i have been at hone alone ( PA deserves vmas holiday too) from lat night, until monday. i wont colour co ordinate, but then i wont be going out either.
before i lost my sight, i had no depth perception and had been totally colour blind for many years.
but i learnt the art of counting.
you dont need to see the stairs, to know where they are when at home.
i had 4 steps from the bedroom door, then turn and the stairs were immediately in from of me.
i never 'saw' them, but experience taught me that they wouldnt move!
if you are silly enough to walk full steam ahead when you KNOW the stairs are near .....
well wgat can i say?
the help i receive is mainly for communication ( reading) and for help outside.
it is to prevent me from becoming isolated.
i can wash, fress and eat unaide4d.
i need help to colour co ordinate and to prepare a cooked meal.
the OP has people resident that can help with this
i am not saying that social services shouldnt provide any assistance, merely that their expectations are unrealistic given their circumstances0 -
My parents do shift work so can't really help.
Stop being so judgmental. Just because you can manage, doesn't I can. Not mentioned because it's irrelevant, but I have other disabilities which make self care a lot more difficult.
It's hardly unreasonable to expect help from social services for things like self cares.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

i am not judging ... trust me, i know how hard it is with a visual impairment.
but giving up and expecting others to step in, really isnt the total answer.
nowhere have i said that you shouldnt have help, hust that you need to help yourself too.
the fact that your parents do shift work should surely mean that someone is arfound more often?
organisation is the key.
u came home from my daughters last night,
ahw aorted out 3 days wprth of clothing, and hung it, in order, in the ardrobe.
she also sent me home with 3 dinners, ready to be nuked.
i wont be able to have a bath til my PA is back ... but all my wash stuff is laid out and ready.
its a mindset you need to tap into.
i am never going to be able to do what i did before i lost my sight. trying to will only leave me frustrated and so you adapt.
your life is different, but you make the most of it0 -
You know how to live with your visual impairment. Not mine.
I asking for help here. Not for someone like you to tell me to adapt. There's only so much adapting I can do. Adapting to sight loss isn't easy when your vision changes all the time.

The OP's parents work. You could live with/ closer to your family, but you choose not to. Why should the OP not be allowed some choice and independence as well?
Your posts are downright hypocritical. Shame on you.0 -
ok ... dont adapt.
the only one you will hurt is yourself.
no one will rush in to save you from yourself,
just thought it might be helpful to point that out.
never mind, you will learn it eventually, it just isnt a nice experience0 -

So you don't think the OP should be entitled to 20 hours of assistance each week, like you get? What's good for the goose ...0 -

no shame on me at all!
i was equally as blind as i am now when i lived with my ex partner.
i received no help and didnt expect any.
he worked 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week.
we organised and were prepared.
i havwent moved nearer family as i am an independant adult and have a life of my own in the location i reside in
as a person living alone i receive support, but for the fretart [aty pg yjr yo,r. o ,anage alone.
its about organisation and nothing more.

I was promised help more than once from the visual impairment rehab team. Predictably, I never got it.
All I'm asking for is help to become independent. Is that really too much to ask?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

to be honest i havent had that kind of help either.
i am blind and have never even been offered a cane, let alone cane training!
o have been given funding for a PA. but that is because i live alone
help wont just drop into your lap.
of they have promised you help, then you need to chase it and not just sit and wait0
