Don't misunderstand me please, I do have a cat, she is 12, but the door to the staircase is always closed. We have left it open on occasion and she has sneaked up there but as soon as she hears my voice at the bottom of the stiars she comes racing down, head down. Or if I catch her halfway up, jus a sharp 'No' has her scuttling back down, she just knows its not allowed.

I was told by a vet that that is is actually harmful to animals to sleep in beds etc because of the diseases we can give to them and not as is usually thought 'its disgusting' if you see what I mean. It was just a thought on my experience with our mistress of the downstairs lol.

I should have remembered you had a cat. Soz. :o

I'm sure there are quite a few cat owners like you who have some element of control over their moggs but there are those of us who just let them have the run of the house, because it's easier. :p
  • has anyone found one of those ultra violet lights that actually works? I never have. But I have just ordered some of that Fizzion to see it it helps with my issue similar to the OP's
  • Thank you all so much for your advice and suggestions.

We sourced the problem - my shoe rack which after I removed all the shoes sniffing each one, found a pair of my heels that had been sprayed on. I removed all the shoes and put them in a cupboard and have washed the carpet etc and the change in smells was immediate. I cant believe I didn't even think to check there! So thank you to those who suggested getting down to the cats level or else I would still be wondering.

The cats will not be allowed in my room now or at least for the near future until I am sure the smell has completely gone. My DH is happy now although tbh I don't really think he would have rehomed them but I think he was just getting frustrated with it.

    Many thanks again

The urine off really works well if it happens again and is said to prevent them doing it again in that area.

My rescue cat pees about once every two months somewhere in the house and urine off has been a godsend. I have laminate flooring and when I've steam cleaned my floors I spray it again with urine off otherwise he marks his territory on my clean floors.

I'm pleased you found the place. A good compromise is not letting them in your bedroom. It's better than the alternative and keeps the peace

the only thing that I found that actually got rid of the cat pee smell was this stuff called stain and odour remover by a company called simple solution - its not a cleaner, its a smell remover - it smells a bit like playdoh and honestly, is the only thing that has ever worked for us when one of our cats took to peeing on the bedroom carpet
