Buying a new TV

My mum's very old (uses scart leads old) TV has dropped dead. She wants me to go with her tomorrow to buy her a new TV. But since my TV is also very 'scart leads' old as well, I'm feeling a bit hesitant.

She doesn't have SKY, VIRGIN etc. So, will she need a new aerial lead when we get a TV tomorrow? I'm thinking of a LG 39LN540V 39-inch Widescreen 1080p Full HD LED TV with Freeview HD/Intelligent Sensor/HDMI Connectivity. Will it be a simple plug in & work kinda thing?

Man, who knew buying a TV would seem complicated:eek:.
:j I hope my comment helps :T

Why do you need a new arial lead? New TV's still have a standard antenna socket.

If she has older scart devices then check the TV is the size you want and has enough scart sockets.

Some will have one socket others will have more.

If you have no HD devices then your only going to see standard resolution. Trying to tell my dad and my FIL that is pointless though.

Look at the quality of this... Err thats standard res not HD..

  • Nope.. You can now get freeview HD over your normal aerial if your TV has the right decoder in it

The TV the OP has linked to will support it. No need for HDMI cables, just a regular aerial cable will do.

Yes, you should just need to plug it in, plug in the aerial lead. Maybe tune the digital channels in. That's it
  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!:T I was a bit worried (could you tell?:rotfl:).

Since you are a Trillionaire, don't be a cheapskate.

Get her this LG 42LN578V SMART 42" TV WITH BUILT IN WI-FI AND FREEVIEW HD. MAGIC REMOTE INCLUDED for £399.99 instead.
Of course she should have a decent Broadband connection for the Smart TV part.

    In addition;
Buy a 2013 LG Smart TV* and as a thank you, LG will give you 7 Sky Sports Day Passes and 3 Sky Movies Month Passes.

A descent broadband is required anyhow.

How many devices does she want to connect, and how many of this are actually restricted to using SCART? I have DVD and HDD recorders with bot SCART and HDMI.
