Promenades (USA) debit card fraud

Hi,
Got a call from First Direct as they suspected a fraudulent transaction was attempted from the USA for 15p! Found it odd for that amount, but was that the bad guys checking to see if the transaction would go through before trying for more?
Card was frozen and I have ripped it up.
Anyone had this before? Bit worried that it was my debit card and not my cc, usually very diligent with online security, etc. I did a search and found some reports for credit card fraud by promenades but they were for a number of years ago.
Thanks
fc

There is software available on the net which 'generates' account/card numbers until they get one that works.
As it has already been stopped you need worry no further.0
