Hi all
i was looking at the arnold clark web site for a car since they have a so called real sale.
having seen a a car i fancied vauxhall corsa 2013 i found that the price has been inflated to make it look like a sale
this was on fife gumtree, the add was placed 8 days ago before the sale started
Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 SXi 3dr (2013)
£8,495 Fife
the same car from arnold clark
Pre Sale £9495
Sale Price £8495
Save £1000
i've had a look round on other arnold clark showrooms and have found quite a lot.
you'll find most of the car from arnold clark are advertise on gumtree
think i'll have to get in touch with trading standards and wont be buying a car from them
thought i would let people know about this
miss help

Offer them £7495 then :cool:0 -
In the trade they are known as Arnold Shark, now you know why.0

Most companies do this, just take a look at the Argos "Sale". If you read the 6point type at the bottom of the item listing, it tells you that it has been on sale previously at the same, or even a lower price.
You will find that the sticker price on the windscreen is at the higher value, so you have actually provided a good tip: check the price on Gumtree before you buy as they will come down to this one.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

By trading standards rules does an item not have to be offered at the higher price for a certain period before being discounted to the sale price? One of the big retailers has just been done for not conforming to this, cant remember who though.0

That vehicle is certainly not cheap unless a very high spec vehicle
Not heard anything positive about Arnold Clark though my sister bought a C4 Picasso from them two years ago which was fairly troublefree.

That is a 2013/62 plate Corsa for £7499 + fees (£100 or so)
You are better off going to a similar car supermarket type place.
No frills, no hard sell(usually) and turn down any warranty, finance insurance, paint protection or seat protection products.
Buying inside the manufacturers warranty period is a very good idea.
Motorpoint seem decent enough from what I have been told
Though I always recommend CarGiant.
Partly because they have a good selection of cars at sensible prices and partly because it winds up the forum trolls.0 -
lol "sales", it's just a ploy to get people through the doors. Everyone does it. If you beleive the supermarkets their prices should be falling consistently over the years achieveing the impossible.0

My favorite is double glazing sales or buy one get one free. A fool and his money are soon parted!0

A dealership near me always advertises cars at half price - but they compare the used (2/3 year old) price and new RRP.
I don't know how they get away with it as clearly not comparing like for like so don't see how it is a saving.0 -
They get away with it as it doesn't have to be like for like - try are pointing out that their car is half the OTR price of an equivalent model, and could well have been that car at some stage.
Since a resale will not incur Car Tax or VAT there are real savings that don't hit the dealer at all (unless a pre-reg), but as long as you compare via a decent app - like AutoTrader - you won't be fooled.0
