Unknown default

Hello. This is my first ever post so please bare ith me if this question has been asked before.
My husband has just been trying to change mobile phone networks and contract, but has been declined. We have looked on his credit report and there appears to be a default relating to a previous mobile phone contract. When he changed from Orange to Vodafone in August 2012 he used a company that specialises in offering good deals and buying/paying off your remaining contract. It would now appear that there was still an outstanding payment required to end the contract which he was completely unaware of resulting in a default.
Could someone explain to us how we go about either paying it off or having it removed from his credit report please?

I would have thought they would still send him bills for the final payments until the contract was up.

Phone the original company 1st and see where the charges have come from.

You need to complain, in writing, to one of the companies in the first instance.

I would start with Orange, to find out why the default was filed and why they never asked for the remaining payment. Move onto the other company, depending what you find.
