Three Mobile ARGH!

Long Message Ill try to Paraphrase as much as possible:

- Me and my Partner both with Three, my Contract expired in June 2013, on the one plan with a Iphone 4,
-My Partner is on a Sim Only Contract [Rolling Contract] Meant to be able to Cancel it anytime we want.
-We went into Three today, to see our options being ive been with them for 2 years and they go, "I could upgrade without offering me any Loyalty discount" So i'd still have to pay £38 a month, for a Samsung S4,
But the worst thing is they want OH, to pay £65 upfront to be able to come out of a ROLLING month Contract! We told them we should be able to just leave without paying,
When we asked about getting the phone she wanted still no loyality bonus even tho im paying for their service

  • What consumer right issue are you needing help with?

Three just simply don't see you as good customers.
  • Three rarely do loyalty discounts. I'm not clear on the issue with your partner's contract, do they want £65 to cancel her old contract, or is that for a new phone?

The rolling contract still has a 30 day notice period to be able to leave...

Three have no loyallty to customers, there's something funky going on with three, they've left affiliate networks, don't work with cashback sites and even car phone warehouse haves topped selling them...

I'm sure I read somewhere they're looking to merge with another company, 2 of the three masts closest to me have been out of action for at least three weeks now, I'm wondering if it's all connected.
  • You will never get anything from 3 by going instore.
You need to call them and tell them you want to cancel your contract and be prepared to go ahead with it and get a PAC code. They will call you back with deals but you need to stick to your guns until you get somewhere close to what you want.

Be careful about asking for the PAC code after cancelling your contract.
You have to give 3 (and I would suspect most mobile companies) 30/31 days notice of closing your account.
If you ask the PAC code, your account will be closed when you use the PAC code with a new mobile company. However if you use the PAC code before the 30 days is up, 3 will charge you for the remainder of the 30 days.
I would (and have in the past), closed my account then waited 3 weeks before asking for my PAC code. I then used it immediately.
This meant I was only charged for a few days by 3 and not for say 25 days.

After account closure, 3 will offer incentives to stay with them. Up to you as to whether you accept the incentive.
Since I didn't want to stay with 3, I had to hang firm as they were very persistent in trying to get me to stay.
  • We got a good loyalty discount from 3. My wife has been with them for years. she gets a really good discount on her monthly contract. and she gets me £5 a month off mine too. It's not a lot but, considering I've only just joined 10 months ago them it's better than nothing.

Although, I just had a funny conversation with Steven (with a VERY strong Indian accent!)

Steven: Hi, as a loyal customer and your custom is very much appreciated by three, you are due a FREE upgrade.

Me: That's Great as I have a broken phone and 12 months left on my contract.

S: What phone would you like

    M: Samsung S4?

S: That's fine. I can give you a FREE S4 with all you can eat data, 500 mins and 5000 texts for £30 per month

M:Fantastic, how long is the contract.

    S: 24months

M: is that 12 months PLUS the 12months I have left? or 24months PLUS the 12 months I have left?

    S: no, just 24 months.

M: so the 12 months I have left are just wiped off?

S: no, you would need to pay off the remainder of your existing contract.

M: but that ISN'T a free upgrade, that's just a new contract. And you tell me I can have that as a special offer as a loyal customer, but I can probably get that offer at ANY phone company, and I'm not even a customer of theirs.

S: Yes, yes, your custom is very much appreciated by three, which is why we are offering you a special offer of a FREE upgrade.

    M: but it's not a free upgrade...

S: yes yes, a free upgrade for your loyal custom that is very much appreci........

    M: click! I hung up.

    Idiot!
