Need a DVD, so hence all these machines have one, mainly used for browsing, some word processing and spreadsheets, tempted by the lighter weight of a 14" but like most folk it will be housebound most of the time.... The extra year guarantee at John Lewis is a plus but doesn't EU law technically cover such items for 2yrs anyway?

Cheers in advance......

I am definitely no expert but a first reaction is that you are looking at higher spec machines/processors than your stated requirements would indicate. If so, you could spend less and get enough to do the job you need say £350. Not necessarily with the headline/advertised saving though but only a saving if the extra is useful.

Sure somebody with more knowledge will be along to assist shortly.

The G510 looks like a fantastic spec for the price - so much so that I've just ordered one, thanks for the pointer.

As colalba states your usage could be met more than adequately by a £350 laptop.
