i'm sorry for your loss. I can imagine this was a horrible shock at a time of great stress. I can only imagine your wife chose not to tell you because she was deeply embarrassed about even beginning divorce proceedings.

I have a friend who wishes to divorce his wife. She lives overseas and will not talk about it. He has taken legal advice and in order to divorce her he needs to show 'spousal abandonment' of 7 years. Whilst your situation was a while ago, I hope this helps a little with reasuring you that it is not possible to divorce someone without them knowing after such a short period of being apart.
