Smart Parking PCN but slight error in Registration Number

Hi

I've tried reading through all the threads but can't find a specific answer to this query or a time when this question has been asked before - I'll apologise now if I 've missed it somewhere.

My wife received a PCN from Smart Parking in Totnes, Devon about 10 days ago. She feels she should pay as she did overstay - I tried to talk her out of it and was encouraging her to appeal, but she said she didn't want the agro.

Last night she went online to pay and tried searching for the PCN on their system. It couldn't be found. I had a close look at the PCN and noticed the Reg was listed as **05**0 where the last digit should obviously be a letter, it is recorded as a zero. When enterign the reg, with a zero, on their website the PCN is found.

The question is, does this make the PCN invalid? I'm assuming if they write to DVLA and ask for the owner's details, the DVLA will write back stating that the reg is not found. But if they have any common sense (a debate for another thread perhaps), they will spot their error and request the details for the Reg ending in an O. Can they change their details and as their font is so small/similar, how could I prove they got it wrong in the first place?

Thanks in advance for responses. :)

CK

There are many threads on this - most recently in the last couple of weeks!

However, this makes no difference to the PCN as it is not valid to begin with.

What you need to do now is wait to see if a Notice to Keeper arrives - which means they have got your details off the DVLA. If nothing arrives, then you are home free, or someone else is scratching their head at thir demand. Do not initiate contact!

In the meantime, read this thread:

So you are informed about the procedure you need to follow if an NTK arrives.

Why are you even contemplating paying this invoice? It's taken you longer to post your thread than sending an appeal! We can help you get this cancelled with 2 simple emails rather than paying this scam. If you or your wife can't be bothered to do this, then sorry I can't be bothered to help you further.

When you've changed your mind about paying then I will help you with the wording for your soft appeal to smart .
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

''A fool and their money''...oh dear...please change her mind. This is not a parking ticket, she's letting the side down (I am female and am shocked!).

A Notice to Keeper from Smart Parking (when it arrives) has enough flaws in it that an online appeal to Smart can get it cancelled in days, without even needing POPLA. This is the easiest one to appeal, when the NTK arrives next month.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
