Additional card holder question

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could give me some advice.

My partner is going to apply for a new lloyds avios credit card, their credit rating is very good and she earns over 50k a year. My credit rating is in the middle of being repaired, it wasn't horrendous but uni days took over (I've graduated now)

The question is: will my partners ability to get the card be hindered if I am additional card holder?? Will I be credit checked (it's getting better another year and it be fine I would say)

Thanks for any help

You'll only be credit searched if you're financially associated. Are you? (ie do you share a mortgage, loan, or joint current account).

You will not be credit searched as an additional cardholder.
  • No its only joint accounts where you and your wife are both liable that can cause your credit rating to be linked to hers, eg joint bank account, joint mortgage, as she remains liable for the credit card and you just have an additional card, it wont impact her.

    Hope this helps :)

Credit cards are not joint accounts and so they dont create any form of financial association between the two of you. Adding you as an additional cardholder or not will not impact her though if you are worried then you could always have her apply first and if accepted then add you as an additional cardholder.

Some companies do a CRA check on other cardholders. In most cases this is just an ID check and so doesnt impact you at all. Some do a basic scoring but are only looking for the big things like CIFAS loadings
  • Card has been excepted!!

Quick question though, my previous debt was with lloyds (more than 6 years ago) although it doesn't appear on my report anymore I still had it. Will this impact me being a additional cardholder?

    Thanks
