Ideas for anniversary trip

Hi all

Looking for ideas / suggestions / recommendations please.

OH and I are celebrating 25 years of wedded bliss in September (2014) and would like to go away somewhere special. DS will (hopefully) be heading off to uni around the date of the anniversary so we will go away towards the end of the month.

We can probably do 4 nights / 5 days maximum, would somewhere different and special but also luxurious, budget isn't limitless but could probably go to £1.5k for the right trip (time to save :D).

I'm open to suggestions in UK and abroad, although don't want to spend a day each way travelling. We live in the South East of England.

I would love to hear of anywhere others have been that you would suggest. Thanks in advance :)

that rather narrows it down doesn't it; how about Paris?
It might help if you said what you like doing when on holiday - museums, galleries, culture, driving, outdoor walking etc??? Any special interests?
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

Paris was where we got engaged so although special we have been there a few times. When I said don't want to spend a day travelling each way, I meant no 14 hour flights :)

We like a bit of culture / places to go but not really museums all day every day. Would rather not be driving around too much and not very sporty although happy to walk anywhere and everywhere.

Other than that, we are very open to any ideas that may be out of the norm to us. Have been looking at going to visit Northern Lights online today and that looks good, but also looked at Boston so that might give a better idea of how broad we are considering. I just wondered if anyone had anywhere they loved and would recommend really.

    Hi

    What about:

    New York
    Barcelona
  • Istanbul. Weather will still be good, it's an amazing city and it's also cheap for eating out and drinking unlike most of Europe. I've stayed at the Four Seasons which is good for a special occasion but there are loads of more reasonably priced hotels too. It's probably my favourite city in Europe.

Seville is my current favourite Euro city
Sounds odd, but it's just so Spanish :)
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Somewhere like Sorrento/Positano/Amalfi is very nice. Lovely Italian food and weather, take a drive around the Amalfi coast which is one of the most beautiful in the world. Go see the island of Capri, walk around Pompeii and walk up Mount Vesuvius. Beaches aren't good but find a lovely hotel, maybe with a pool with a view. The Grand Hotel Capodimonte has old world grandeur and stunning views.

Alternatives are Sicily, which also has the amazing Mount Etna and many historic sights, Iceland, great natural beauty and unlike anywhere else, or perhaps a short cruise from the UK.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

If you can go early in Sept before DS goes to Uni, then there are more better weather options available such as Elounda on Crete.
