At Last !!!!:D

The only acceptable numbers will be those beginning 01, 02 OR 03 - charged at geographic rate, normally inclusive in call plans.
Freephone 080 numbers may be used in certain cases.

All national and local government departments are expected to announce their plans for moving to 01//02/03 early in 2014.
The guidance also covers services delivered by contractors Eg: the Student Loans Company.

The only exceptions are the few cases where a charge may be validly imposed for the provision of a specialist information service and the retention of some old numbers as a secondary alternative to the proper number .

    Please take note imediately

    Essex County Council

If Essex Police can offer 01245 491 491 (or 0300 333 4444) as their number, why do you only offer 0845 numbers?

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Calls to 01/02/03 numbers are usually only inclusive up to 1 hour. This still doesn't guarantee getting through a person, being transferred to the correct person and getting the problem sorted with the DVLA and HMRC.

How are the government departments going to manage without their "cut" of the call revenue? And 01/02/03 numbers will cost them money.

DC: "All government departments should stop using premium rate telephone numbers".
DC's Personal Private Secretary: "Yes, Prime Minister".
