I don't see why he can't do the knowledge whilst looking for a job and looking after his son part time.
I doubt most taxi drivers just took months out to do nothing but study.
He doesn't have to tell the job centre surely. As long as he showed he applied for 3 jobs a week he'll get his jsa!0 -
Sorry but I haven't read all your other threads. I'm not sure how much of a time commitment looking after the son is. Presumably it can't be massive otherwise what is he going to do when he gets a job?
To answer your question, your son could manage all three (childcare, jobseeking and the knowledge) if he really wanted to. Loads of people do and they can't all be women!;)0 -
Yes Fbaby my son does have caring duties for his youngest son while his ex partner works part time. He also been looking after their home up until now. So, living with us, looking after his son until his ex returns home and then he's looking for work it looks as if the "knowledge" will have to go on hold. Doing that as an option while claiming benefits for a while would have been a help to him in the long run, but well, such is life I suppose.
Thanks everyone for your replies.
I know loads of people that are parents, work full time AND study - without living with mum.
Why would this be so difficult for your son to study, undertake part time childcare all whilst living with mum?
It's part of being an adult with children - you sometimes have to do what is necessary ahead of what you fancy.:hello:0 -
When I went to college a few years ago, some of the students were on JSA and were told that as long as the course was under 16 hours per week they were ok to be doing this and still claiming. No idea if it's still the case now.0

And as above, adult children living with parents are entitled too.
Off topic, but your OH might have worked enough previously to claim contributions based JSA, that's what I got.
If you haven't paid enough NI, you're only eligible for income based JSA, which is the same amount, but reduced/withdrawn based on your OH's income (even if unmarried).
So it may indeed be right!0
