                    Hi,
I rarely sell on eBay (so private seller not a business) but since their frequent free listing days I have been clearing out some of my DVD collection. I had a duplicate DVD Box Set so I listed one of them and it sold.
I have received an INR from the buyer asking for the tracking number.
I listed the item with second class postage and the option for second class recorded delivery, but the seller (who buys a reasonable amount of items from looking at their feedback) didn't choose recorded delivery, so would be well aware that there is no tracking number, and the cynic in me thinks that the buyer is trying to pull a fast one and get a free DVD box set for Christmas.
I know if I cannot prove delivery the buyer will get refunded, but since I do have another copy if I sent this off by recorded delivery and it is signed for by the buyer, would this be enough for eBay/PayPal not to refund the buyer?
I believe I have 8 days to resolve with the buyer once a case is opened, so would I need to get the replacement copy to them before the 8 days are up and eBay look at the case?
Anyone have experience of these matters that could shed some light?
Thanks.

Sorry must be that I've had one of those days where I can't focus on the simple thing but why would you want to send another one to them?
INR they get a refund and keep your boxset if they did in fact get it, you send replacement they then have two boxsets of the same for the price of one so you still loose.
Why not just refund and either list the one you have now or at a later date (after feedback received ofcourse to stop buyer from crying foul if in fact they realy did not receive).0 -

Thanks for the reply.
I would sooner keep the payment rather than refund mainly because the DVD Box set was re-released with a new remastered version, so I can see the number of listings and the prices of the old one I sold have fallen considerably, so probably unlikely to sell for any where near the same price again.
Regarding the Royal Mail claim for the missing item you have to prove how much you paid for the item. Since it was purchased around 8 years ago I don't keep receipts from that long ago. I know I paid more than it sold for because the price of DVD media has fallen dramatically these past few years. But from a previous experience when claiming with the Royal Mail they will not pay out the sale price or the market value of the item gained from the prices on other websites.
So no payout from Royal Mail or at best refund of the postage I paid.
So sending out the second copy I figure will be just like selling both copies now at the current selling prices.
The previous time an item went missing I was contacted by the buyer not using the INR form, and I refunded.
The current situation for the INR is waiting the buyers response after I wrote that they didn't pay the Recorded Delivery option so there is no tracking number.
But I wanted to know if after the 8 days do eBay just automatically refund the buyer, so I would need to get the second box set in mail for them to receive it before that cut off date.0 -
You dont need to prove the purchase price
give them the ebay listing details.
As is always the case, why would the buyer pay extra for RD/Signed for?
They know if they got it,they dont need tracking0 -
Has the buyer actually opened a case? They sometimes state whether they want a replacement or a refund.
You have 3 days to reply to them via the case and resolve the issue, if you do the case will not count against you. But if you don't contact them then they can escalate after 7 days - so if you want to replace the item simply let the buyer know that you are sending out a replacement, with tracking.
You should be ok with a claim with RM, I have been refunded 99% of the time0 -

This isn't really a good idea for a couple of reasons.
If the buyer already has the 1st one that you sent, there is nothing to stop them simply refusing to sign for the replacement in which case they will still get their refund, and even if they did sign for it, they could change the INR dispute to a SNAD and get their refund that way.
Also bear in mind that not all signed for mail actually gets signed for and if this was to happen, your buyer might get another freebie.
All in all, it would probably be best to refund them and sell the 2nd box set to someone else.0 -
Agree with others - i no-longer replace items i just refund.
Much less hassle.
In most cases they want the money back anyway - as they already have the item.
If you do re-send - royal mail signed for might not track.0 -
Thank you all for the feedback :beer:Has the buyer actually opened a case?
Yes, they have opened a case for INR after 6 working days which I thought was a bit quick considering the time of the year and the post taking a bit longer than normal.
I have replied stating that they didn't choose the Recorded Delivery option so no tracking number available (which they would already know). I advised because it is Christmas it may take longer and the case is waiting buyer response. You should be ok with a claim with RM, I have been refunded 99% of the timeYou dont need to prove the purchase price

You managed to get refunds for the sale price without having to provide proof of the actual the cost you paid for it?
My one and only claim with the printouts of the sale they wrote wanting receipts or other proof of the actual cost or they would close the case. Since I couldn't provide a receipt then I got nothing.
If I knew that RM would refund the actual sale cost without a providing a receipt then I would just refund the buyer for less hassle.0
