A bit of a vent on my part, (well, actually not really a vent at all, as not overly surprised) so put in in Praise, vent and warnings, but Mods, please feel free to move elsewhere!
Hemel Hempstead received the dubious accolade of the no. 1 !!!! town of the uk.
The council made all sorts of comments, saying how unfair it was to be bottom (or top) of the list this year.
So you'd think they would have made an effort at Christmas, wouldn't you?
Well today, Boxing day, I took this photograph of Hemel's town Christmas tree.
I think Hemel Hempstead's Dacorum Borough Council truly deserves the crown for this effort of a Christmas tree.
What a C r a p town indeed!

That is a nice tree0

Our town hasn't had a tree in years, not since some vandals took it down.0

Actually, that is a lovely tree. But I suspect it has been battered by the high winds and has ended up lopsided.0

And why was the tree at that angle?

It's a bid for the next city of culture.

That's much nicer than the pathetic tree in my town. It looks a bit weather battered but still a very nice tree and probably looked great when it first went up.0

The tree in Clacton was such an embarrassment that the local traders made the Council replace.Never Knowingly Understood.

I'm not saying it's a bad tree from a bushiness and healthy-ish looking point of view. However, the lights on it were tiny ones, and not even connected up.
I wish I'd photographed the base of the tree. It was stuck in a square hole, with bits of wood wedged in to support it.
A really amateurish job!
Dacorum Borough Council are pathetic!0 -
Those "worst town" surveys are actually more of a vent then that tree. I could easily name 10 "crappier" towns than Hemel from personal experience.
The newspapers think Herts/Beds is a bit of a soft target and won't go after hideously grim places......elsewhere......0 -
Well it was Boxing Day, so all the decorations have been nicked & the trees been shoved into a bin. Seems fair enough!Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0
