Faulty bed bought online

I bought a bed online with my credit card and have emailed the bed company to request they collect it from me and give me a refund - it is too firm on inpection. I pointed out that I would have contacted them anyway as I felt there is a fault with the bed base (it creaks and I can't unscrew two of the legs) although not the mattress. They are going to charge me a collection fee of £36. I told them that whilst I accepted there would be a collection fee, I didn't feel it should be the whole amount as there is a fault with the bed base and asked them to reach a compromise but they tell me they can't do anything about the charge. I don't really feel this is entirely fair and wondered what I might be able to do. Could I ask the credit card company to refund something as the bed company would surely have had to give me something back if I had reported just the fault rather than request a return?:)

  • If the bed is inherently faulty then they can't charge for returning it. I'm not convinced that being creaky means it is faulty though.
